Recover Deleted WhatsApp Messages

You can restore your WhatsApp messages by choosing “Restore” in the Backups section and restoring selected messages to your computer. But, be careful, restoring messages to your computer does not restore them to your device. To restore deleted messages, you must first back up your device to iCloud or another external drive.
Backups are stored on your device’s local storage
If you accidentally delete a WhatsApp message, you can always restore it by restoring the backed-up copy. iCloud and Google Drive only allow you to restore the most recent backup, but Android devices can restore older backups. To restore an older backup, you need to have root access on your device. Alternatively, you can restore a backup from your device’s local storage using iTunes.
If you need to copy the files to another device, you can do it by installing WhatsMover on your computer. Once installed, connect your device to the computer using a USB cable. On Android devices, you may need to enable USB debugging. Once done, tap the WhatsApp icon on your computer’s desktop and select the corresponding shortcut. Messages are encrypted while being transmitted
The first and foremost security feature in WhatsApp is its encryption while being transmitted. As long as a message is being forwarded, the content is encrypted as it is copied. Moreover, WhatsApp does not reveal the contents of the message if the user loses or re-sends the same message. WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption is not affected by the ‘forwarding many times’ tag. Moreover, if the recipient forwards the message, it is not subject to the same encryption key, so the recipient does not know he forwarded it. Fortunately, WhatsApp does have a way to disable this feature, which is known as the ‘hidden field’.
The encryption used by WhatsApp makes the messages nearly impossible to intercept. While the message is encrypted while being transmitted, only backups on the user’s phone can be used to access the contents. However, because WhatsApp is end-to-end encrypted, snooping on the messages is not an easy task. This means that there is no way for a third party to decrypt the messages and use them for malicious purposes.
Messages are stored in a cloud
The whitepaper for WhatsApp explains the encryption that goes into backups. A 64-digit encryption key is generated for each user and stored offline on their device, in a password manager, or in a cloud backup key vault. The user must enter their password to use the cloudstored encryption key, and WhatsApp cannot access this password without it. However, it is unlikely that the user will ever forget it. The whitepaper compares the system to a bank safe deposit box.
When you backup your iPhone, the WhatsApp chat database gets copied over. If the user hasn’t accessed the messages for 30 days, they are automatically deleted. The user can also change the settings to make unread messages disappear after a set period of time. The default setting on WhatsApp is seven days, and it doesn’t offer a toggle for individual messages. This can be annoying, since WhatsApp doesn’t offer an easy way to clear all of the files on their device after seven days.
